Rube Goldberg Blog Post #3

I finished recording my Rube Goldberg and it was really fun! At times I was frustrated because I kept failing and there was always something to improve. For example while I was building I made many changes and improvements like using Jenga instead of Dominoes because they didn’t fall over as much. I found using a metal fork instead of a plastic one  helped the can to roll farther. I also had to make many changes to my pulley because something always went wrong with it whether the ball didn’t go into the cup, or it didn’t make enough of a ramp for the treat to slide down. But I kept working hard and successfully got my Rube Goldberg to work. After that editing my video wasn’t too challenging because of all the previous work I had done on WeVideo. Overall I enjoyed this project and I might make another Rube Goldberg just for fun!

This is where to watch my video.

Rube Goldberg Blog Post #2

I just finished building my rube goldberg and it wasn’t too hard since I already had drawn my sketch. Gathering some of my materials was challenging, but my mom helped me and after I got them building was really easy. I still need to test some more things out and make small improvements so that when I am ready to record it won’t be too challenging. Overall I’ve really enjoyed this project and I’m excited to record.

Capstone Blog Post #1

For capstone, I really wanted to do something about global warming or pollution because these are things I’m passionate about. I decided I was going to focus on greenhouse gasses so I started brainstorming questions. The main inquiry question I chose is, what is the Biden Administration’s plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and how can American citizens make a positive impact on current greenhouse gas level?

Next I started thinking about sub questions. I came up with about 8-10 questions and narrowed them down to 5. One of my sub questions is, how is the cost of lowering greenhouse gasses affecting our economy? Now I am at the point where I should start researching. I am excited about continuing this project and I hope finding resources are not too difficult.

The beginning of this project was a bit stressful for me because I didn’t know what simple task I was going to perform. It took a bit of brainstorming, but I finally decided my machine would give my dog a treat. The website Joseph’s Machines really helped me research as well as brainpop and previous fifth graders videos. Once I finished researching I began drawing my sketch. It was pretty easy, but once I started building I realized that I had to make some improvements. I had planned to use dominoes in my original sketch, but when I started building I found they kept falling over so I improvised and used Jenga. I also decided to use a piece of cardboard with ledges so that my rube goldberg could keep going. When I began to test my rube goldberg there were tiny things that needed improvement so I am working on making it perfect. Overall I’ve really enjoyed this project and I can’t wait to film my video.
