Rube Goldberg Blog Post #2

I have finished my Rube Goldberg! my estimation of how many tries it was gonna take was 21, before we got our final product we changed some things with the lever, and other things as well. The first step was that you get a small ball and it rolls down the tube, then it hit the block of wood, that hit the cereal box, that hit the weight that was connected to a pulley and on the other side of the pulley there was a hammer that was also connected, then when the weight fell it pulled the hammer forwards ad up so it hit the dominoes of books, then that fell on another weight that rolled down the incline that fell on the lever that had a sock that went into the laundry basket. That took me 20 tries for it to work. I think that the hardest part of the project was for it to go into the laundry basket. I had to mostly change the lever part because we made it ourselves.  The part that I enjoyed most is probably when I got the successful attempt because I was so happy and relieved! The thing that i’ve learned the most is that you can always try something if you don’t know if it will work because you never know and it doesn’t hurt to know either. Overall I thought this was a fun project and I would do it again. This was one of my favorite projects so far.

Capstone blog post #1

So far for the capstone project I have came up with a main inquiry question and have came up with some sub questions but I have two cut some of them to make it 5 sun questions. so far I have really enjoyed this project. I think it’s a really fun one and the end project is gonna be great. My favorite part so far was figuring out my main inquiry question to go with my topic, because I thought it was a really fun process. My topic is How have interior design trends changed over the last 50 years and what influences have played a part in those changes? My teacher helped me pick the one that’s just right. Since i’m working on my sun questions right now, I have come up with 8 ideas and highlighted my 5 favorite in yellow. Overall I really am enjoying this project so far and I can’t wait to see the outcome!

My Rube Goldberg has been fun and challenging. One thing that was challenging was setting up the actual Rube Goldberg. Although I haven’t finished, it’s still very challenging. Another challenging part of the actual Rube Goldberg is the dominos. It kept on falling down, and I at least had to redo it 100 times! One fun thing during this project is designing it and figuring out what you want to add and remove from it. The reason I liked so much is because it was creative and it was free. So far in my Rube Goldberg I have done half of it.

My prediction is that it is gonna take 29 tries. Another fun thing was making most of the steps, I didn’t have most of the things I needed but I made most of the things that you can make, but I still had to get a couple things like a race car, a small car, a rope, and a hook. During the process I sketched a lot of ideas, I also brainstormed a lot. I came up with 3 big ideas and 5 simple tasks. Eventually it took me 2 days to decide.

My final simple task is putting a laundry ball into a laundry basket. After I finished sketching it I made a shopping list so I would know what to get and if we have it or not. Some thing we had to improvise. Like instead of a real rope, we used a rope to a jump rope. We did the same with other stuff too. I am gonna use 3 simple machines, A wheel and axle (The race car), An incline plane ( I made it with a table that’s gonna be at an incline), and A lever made out of lacrosse sticks. My favorite out of all of them is the lever or inclined plane because I made it myself. I thought it was fun creating it. Overall I think this project is fun and I thought it’s very creative and I liked how you could add whatever you wanted to it. This is one of my favorite projects! I am very excited to see the end product.
