Jackie Robinson

 

Childhood

 

Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919. Jackie lived in Southern California in a house that the Robinsons called castle that had 5 bedrooms and a big backyard. Jackie got a lot of food because people wanted him to play on his team. He was in a group called the Pepper street gang that would do a lot of bad things.

 

Adult life

 

Jackie married Rachel on February 1946. He went to college at UCLA then Jackie Had a college record in broad jump of 25 feet 6 and a half inches. He was so good at baseball he was going to get signed by the White Sox if he was white. He joined the army and was a second lieutenant in the army on January 1943. Jackie helped black people get their rights. White people were treated better. Jackie wanted wanted that black people and white people are treated equal. Jackie died on October 24, 1972.

 

Challenges

 

In 1947 black people did not have the same rights as whites. It was not fair that whites people were treated better than black people. Jackie could not sit next to white people because of segregation. Segregation is when white people and black people could not play with each other, they can’t drink from the same fountain and more. At first his teammates did not appreciate but then they did appreciate Jackie. Jackie was going to play baseball but he couldn’t fight back due to racism.

 

How did Jackie change the world

 

Jackie changed the world by being the first black person to play Major league baseball with whites. Jackie opened the way for black people to play sports with white people. He also changed that black people can live with whites.
