Capstone #1: Picking a Topic in Capstone

When Mrs. Edwards told us to start capstone, she said that our main inquiry question was going to be a deep question. We would do a lot of research and look through it to come up with our capstone. I really wanted to learn about food allergies because I have them. I thought it would be hard to come up with questions because I know a lot about food allergies, but it really wasn’t. Mrs. Edwards said that we were going to choose two topics. I was not that interested in anything else, so I brainstormed and came up with something random. I came up with endangered animals.

Our first worksheet was called the curriculum wheel. It had different categories, for example Economics. We would then try to come up with questions for our topics related to Economics. Some of the categories were hard for me because how do you come up with a question in the music category when your topic is allergies? Mrs. Edwards told me to keep trying, and I finally came up with a question. When the time came to pick a topic, I chose allergies because I am way more interested in allergies than endangered animals, and I have allergies. My final question was what are the top treatments for people with allergies, and what treatments are allergists considering.

  1. Your post made me chuckle. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to see myself through my student’s eyes. I seem to recall that for the curriculum wheel’s “music” section we brainstormed something related to the possible use of music therapy for people with allergies. 🙂 I’m excited to learn more about treatments for people with food allergies!
