Poem About Poems

The most important thing about poem is this is a poem

There are stanzas, rhyming, and anything really.

But the most important thing about a poem is this is a poem

This poem is based off “The Important Book”.  An awesome book with lots of poems.

Colonial america – pt 2 3/4 – Aftermath

Now Ebony is writing it her diary about the aftermath of the storm:

Rockwood, Meeting house

Ebony Stark

The blizzard is over, many people have died. Our fence is down and the only dry places is the meeting house and a few other houses. Our tents were destroyed and our pond is iced. Eshal and Silva are staying in the meeting house with me while we fix up the houses. I heard reports of Natives attacking. We are in a pretty bad state. It’s almost moonrise and I should go to bed. I worked hard all day getting everything under control. There is so many sick Eshal’s house is filled to the brim. I am setting up relationship with the middle colony. I hope it all ends soon.

Lotus Dance

I play the cello. Pretty hard, pretty nice, and pretty pretty. Since I started before the orchestra, I am in the 5th grade orchestra, not the 4th. It’s very confusing but that is not the point of this blog post. I am playing this piece called, “Lotus Dance.” It’s very pretty, but it is IMPOSSIBLE. First, half of the piece is plucking the strings, which makes my fingers explode. Then, it’s really confusing because the violins in the orchestra play a totally different melody. Last, it’s really catchy. While I am writing this all I can hear is Lotus dance, which gets irritating after a while!

Starting poetry

Poetry is one of my favorite things, I love to do it. Guess what? We are starting the poetry unit! Who-hoo! I am very excited and a really want to start. There is even a poetry festival! But…. we have to write about kindness. I love to write about a lot of things. Kindness is not one of them.

So…… I have no idea what I am going to do. I hate poems about joy, happiness, everyone being friends. I’m more of a darkness person. But I like funny poems too, if they are funny enough. I want to encourage people to write poems!

Go do it!

Colonial america – pt 2 1/2 – Blizzard

A horrible blizzard just hit rockwood! Take a sneak peek into Ebony’s Diary to find out what is going to happen:

Rockwood, The first tent in the row

Ebony Stark

There was a blizzard last night and it shook our whole colony. The barrels are rolling away and everything is freezing. Our cattle and horses are so cold I think they are dead by now. Right now I am shivering under blankets wondering if I can make my colony survive this deadly storm. My tent is breaking down and my fingers are turning blue. I bet you the ground is frosted and white with all this storm. Our blacksmith is trying to nail in the tent but the cold is making them bend and snap. Everyone is frantic trying to keep warm. Oh, my fire just went out. The wind is whipping my hair in my face so when I try to light the wood I end up lighting my blanket! I shake it out and tie my hair into a bun. I see fires light up everywhere, my people are trying to keep warm, thus burning our supplies away. Ugh.

Stargirl

We are reading Stargirl in class. It’s a pretty good book so far. The way that it is written is very very beautiful. You might think it’s narrated by Stargirl herself but it is actually narrated by a guy named Leo. I think that makes the story a little more interesting then if it was narrated by Stargirl.

However, it is very unlikely. How often do you find a girl who dances with a football at a game? I think this is fiction. It can’t be realistic. I get why the students would think Stargirl was fake. Besides, Leo seems way too scared of Stargirl. I mean, he went running away petrified. That is just wrong. Plane wrong. Also the “Hot Seat” program is very unlikely. How would they get all those things? Why would the teachers say yes? But otherwise the book was good!

ELA – the test

Okay. Our ELA test is coming up . I admit I am scared. But not as much as last year. Here is the problem with the test:

My teacher: Don’t worry, the test doesn’t matter

Me (thought): Yay, it doesn’t matter!

My teacher: And now you have to study for two months for it! No big deal!

It was a little more complicated than that but, WHAT????? I think the studying is harder than the actual test. I can’t believe it! First of all, we had to go through that stupid short response. I mean, name one time in your life you had to do it on a daily bases? Come on! Then the extended response. It’s the worst thing that could ever happen to me. I think it’s really really dumb! This is just my opinion, no offense to anyone who likes it.

Bonnie

Bonnie is my cat. But… she is not the ordinary kitty you would find. First of all, she’s really really FAT. I’m not kidding. She looks like a baked potato with a head! Second, she’s old. The doctor says she is ten (63-76 in cat years) but we all think she is older. But this fat cat has a really inserting past.

My amazing Kitty

Bonnie was on the street for a while. Me, I think around two years. I don’t know how she survived because she is the laziest cat on the planet. Well, a shelter found her and they put her in a cage. Now the volunteers at the shelter noticed Bonnie liked to eat, so they fed her and fed her and fed her and fed her until she got really fat. Thank goodness that shelter was a non-kill shelter because Bonnie was so fat no one wanted her so she stayed there for 8 months! Really! I am not joking! But when I saw this cat I felt like I wanted it and I needed it. I begged my mom to have her but she said that she would be so sick. I made a deal with her, to take Bonnie to the vet, if she was sick we would not keep her. But…. my Mom was proven wrong. The vet said she was most heathy and most kind cat she’d ever seen. Now my cat is sitting on a chair sleeping. I bet you she is dreaming about food!

Colonial America – pt 2 – Persona

We have been creating backstories for our people we are impersonating. Here is my person’s backstory:

My name is Ebony Stark. I am currently the governor of Rockwood. I’m a girl.

Deal with it!

I was born into a family with five children and many dogs. It was really crowded, so I shipped myself off to boarding school when I was twelve to study law and business. I worked with the horses at the school, to pay for my scholarship. At the age of 18 I finished my studies and went back to my house. My older brothers had died from the scarlet fever, and my father had moved away. I helped my mother in the house, but wanted to continue my dreams as a leader and business. This caused many hardships. I got kicked out of a law firm, had to dress like a boy, and many other things. I got elected to be on my town’s council. I did that till the age of twenty six, where I had saved up enough money to pay for a journey to the Americas. I was to lead a colony in the north. Not bad. I journeyed on a ship called The Crown, which was more than annoying. I arrived at the colony and my new friends and I had to build it from scratch. A long endeavor, but I think I have found my life’s work. Nice.

Colonial America – pt 1 – Overview

In class we are doing a colonial america reenactment. As you might guess, we chose something to colonize. I chose New England. So we picked our jobs, did a bunch of note taking and are now setting up our colonial backstory. Our teacher told us to not make the backstories that sad but some of us didn’t follow the directions…. Anyway, things have been going great. I am happy with my job as a governor, and I am really happy with my colony’s name, Rockwood. Also, we made a “charter” and covered it with brown paint, so it would look old. Funny, isn’t it? We made a map of Rockwood, and I am happy to say it looks pretty good. We are working together well, and after a week of no activity we are stating to kick off again.

This has been my favorite unit yet. It’s so independent! Our teacher is not doing anything. I also loved this unit because I can impersonate someone from 1607. (Which is awesome). We can make character traits that we don’t have our self. I always loved and found Colonial America very interesting.

But I think its going to be difficult working together. I have learned that this class is not very good at working together. We already had a few mishaps, but I think this is going to go okay, maybe. Well, we may have had more than a few mishaps….. I’m trying to keep everything organized, like “who’s notes are who’s” and “don’t delete some else’s stuff”. Those kind of things.

In my other blog post, Colonial America – pt 2 – Persona, you can see my person’s backstory and laugh your head off!
