In class we were working on our maglev trains. We tried many different ways to make a train that floated in a box. We had to put magnets on the bottom of the box and on the bottom of a Styrofoam square. We had to make the magnets on the bottom of the Styrofoam square repel off of the magnets on the bottom of the box. Our original design was with ring magnets on the side of the box and strip magnets in the middle of the box. The train did not float that time though. We tried to improve that idea.

We soon found a solution to our problem. What we were doing before was wrong because the weight of the train was too much because there were too many magnets on the bottom. This time, we put 3 small strip magnets on the bottom of the train and 3 long strip magnets in the bottom of the box. We were so happy that we finally made a floating maglev train!

Amanda, Sofia, Braden and I worked really well together. We liked building a maglev train because it is really cool and fun. We learned about magnets and attracting and repelling. We worked our way to where we are now and we are happy that we did. I learned a lot about the engineering design process like, first before you create, you have to ask. Then you have to imagine. After that you plan, create and improve. We also learned about maglev trains. They need to have the same poles against the same poles. We put north poles against north poles.
