Answering my Main Inquiry Question Capstone Blog Post #3

I answered m main inquiry question pretty easily because after a few weeks of researching, I had found tons of research to answer my question with. Writing an essay on my main inqiry question was also pretty quick for me since I knew what to write in the essay. My essay is called “The Importance of Jury Selection.” When I was writing my essay, I needed a claim and reasons to support the claim. So, I came up with possible claims and one that I thought was good was,  “Selecting a good unbiased jury is one of the most important aspects of a trial.” When I finished my essay, I then had to write a script for my WeVideo. I used evidence and reasons from my essay in the script and timed my script to find out how much time each slide was and how long my video would be. When I finished making my script, I was ready to finally start making my WeVideo. I had to also find pictures from the internet to put into my video, and that was hard because a lot of the pictures I found were blurry. It took a lot of searching for better pictures, but soon enough, I found good pictures and put them into the WeVideo. The last thing I needed to do for my WeVideo was the voice over. I recorded the voice over and made it all into the WeVideo. Finally, I was finished. It took a long time to make my final presentation, but I did it and now I am done.

Capstone Interview

When I chose my topic, Jury Selections, I knew that it would be easy for me to find someone to interview, since my uncle, Brain Hermann, was a lawyer. I asked him if he would do an interview and he said yes. When I had to come up with questions to ask him, I thought that asking some questions about his job and some about my topic would be good to get information, so I did. I came up with 10 questions to ask him. My interview was on Thursday, May 6th, at 8 pm. The interview went quicker than I expected and it took about 30 minutes. By the end, I got a lot of information about all of the questions I asked and it was cool doing a interview. I think that doing the interview helped me a lot with gathering information and learning more about my topic and sub-questions.

The questions that I asked were:

  • Why did you want to become a lawyer?
  • What do you like most about your job?
  • What do you like least about your job?
  • What is a typical day for you at work?
  • What training do you have to do to be a lawyer?
  • What are some challenges of finding and selecting a good juror?
  • What is a scientific jury selection and your experience with it?
  • When would you have to select a new juror/jury and have you ever had to re-select one?
  • What types of questions would you ask during the jury selection process?
  • What do you look for in a good juror and does it change depending on what type of trial it is?

Capstone Main Inquiry Question and Sub Questions

My topic for Capstone is trials. I chose trials because I have wondered how they worked for a while and I wanted to research and learn more about them. I brainstormed for a good main inquiry question and I narrowed it down to: How has technology improved trials and made them more accurate? And: How are people selected to be jurors on a jury? I decided to go with the second one because it is very interesting how people are selected and because I thought that I could find more information on that question. After that I looked for sub questions. I tried to find questions that were closely related to my main inquiry question. I like my questions a lot and I can’t wait to start researching.
