Technology Blog Post 9

This week in Technology, we started building our switches. For my first switch I did this switch where you lift it up, rotate it, and put it down. The only problem is that it isn’t really attached to the platform but it should still work fine. For my second switch, I plan on making a little toggle-switch that you move on and off. I haven’t decided what to do for my third switch yet but I will keep thinking about it, and also probably go in during lunch so I can be finished by tomorrow.

Today in Technology we started building a circuit on a breadboard. I managed to get four LED lights to light up. I thought it was fun because there were these really small things like whether the lights were pushed in a lot or not that would make it work and so I had to work small and try a lot of things. I had trouble with cutting off the edge part of the wire until I got the stronger wire cutters. I also thought that the rest of it wasn’t too hard and enjoyed it.

Quizzes

In my project, I made one about social studies and Ancient Egypt, which is what we are studying in social studies now. I made mine so that it would show the score at the end, and was trying to make something that people could review basic facts of. I looked at some others and I liked Walker’s project because I liked how the background and the actor matched.

Tynker Music Videos

I liked the AB music video. I liked it because of the way the characters hopping was in rhythm to the beat. The animation was in sync with the audio, which added to the effect even more. I also liked how the soundtrack fit with the characters. The characters seemed to be silly cartoons, and the music was something I thought you would hear in a cartoon like what the dancers might show up in.

Programming 201 and About Me

In Programming 201, I completed the introduction. I like the simplicity of Tynker and how anyone can learn regardless of their previous experience. I didn’t find much to be difficult. I also learned how to use the ‘glide to x: __ y: __ in __ seconds’ block, and included it in my About Me project.

The About Me project tells people who see it a little about my hobbies and what I like. I used the ‘When tapped, say _____ for __ seconds’ often because it allowed people to tap and move on, rather than restart the project and tap something else. I also included a small easter egg of an acorn that would go flying if you tapped it. I thought that was fun.

Computer Science is Changing Everything – Kyle Chin

For me, it was very astounding how at this point in the human story, coding is almost as important as learning how to read. I always thought we were at an in between, but now I realize that we’re actually at that point. It’s amazing to think that once, we humans were just learning to farm. This statement, although small compared to the rest of the video, is what made me actually able to realize the point the video was trying to get across: that coding and computer science isn’t the future; it’s the now.
