Miraculous Marble Mazes!

A incredibly cool thing happened about an hour ago. Our buddies came to make marble mazes with us! Wait… who are our buddies? Our buddies our some super cool 2nd graders. Since were buddies we work on projects together. And today it was marble mazes. Ms. Boyer explained the rules. We would each get one plastic lid, and varied materials. Then we would use those materials to make a marble maze. My buddy was Devum. The moment Ms. Boyer said “GO!”, we got started.

First we had to get the necessary materials. We got our lids, then took out two bottle caps, six pipe-cleaners, and four straws. The, to be fair, we split the material evenly. I was so excited! First, instead of gluing things down right away, we toyed around for a little while. After a little bit of toying, cutting and tinkering, I got my final design. Devum, after some careful planning had also gotten to his final design. My design featured a pipe cleaner entrance, a drop, a pipe cleaner exit, a straw path, and lastly a loop to go through. But before I started to glue I checked out some other people’s projects.

Jonah made this epic project with a boat standing on four legs. I saw this cool project with a red archway. Now, it was time to glue my project. Getting the glue was easier than I thought. All that I had to do was ask Jonah, and he gave it to Devum and Me. The we shared the glue and got to work. SQUIRT. PLOP. SQUE SQUE. Applying the glue would shave been an easy job, but it kept getting on the table. So, I wasted 10 minutes getting it off. But eventually after some gluing I had finished my project. I tried running a marble through it. Bad idea. The marble blew through the barriers, since they weren’t glued down. So, then I had to spend more time re-gluing the whole thing. And then, just as I applied the last drop of glue, it was time to start cleaning up! :-(!

The cleanup went smoothly. We picked up pipe cleaners, recycled post-its, and scoured the floors for dust and grime. After a good 20 minute cleanup, you would have no idea that just twenty minutes, the hall was a mess. Then, sadly, we had to say goodbye to our buddies. They had work to do. We had work to do. All, in all, I think this whole experience was amazing. I can’t wait for the next buddies!
