Capstone Blog Post #2

In Capstone we have to do an interview. We do this so we can get as much information as possible about our topic. We have to find an expert on our topic. I like this aspect of the project because I feel like I got a lot of good information from my interviewee that I didn’t find in my research.

The process for me on finding a person to interview was kind of easy for me. I interviewed Scott Pasquini who is the managing director at Madison Dearborn Partners (that company owns Topps). One thing that I found easy was reaching out to him. He wrote back in a couple of days and we found a perfect time to meet. One thing that I found challenging was thinking of my questions. I wanted to make sure all of my questions would be answered with information that would be useful because if it wasn’t it would be a waste of a question a waste and a waste of his time.

My experience with conducting the interview was actually really good. One thing that I found very useful that i’m glad I asked for permission is to record the conversation. I found this useful because I missed a lot of stuff during the interview and the recording allowed me to go back and write down all of the things I missed. One other thing that was really good is that I got a lot of information from my interview.  I think that if I did not do a interview I wouldn’t have nearly enough information to do my final project.

Overall I am very glad I did my interview and I am really excited to start working on my final project!

Capstone Post #1

In 5th grade we always do a big project called a capstone project. What we do is think of a question and interview experts on that question and do a lot of research so we can later make a presentation about all of the research we have.

There are many steps in the process of capstone because there is a lot to do. The first step is to pick a topic to research on.  I chose sports cards because I collect them and I want to learn about them. After I picked my topic I was really excited to start researching.

The next step after we picked the topic we had to pick a main inquiry question and sub questions. A main Inquiry question is the main question that after you have finished all your research you want to have answered that question. My main inquiry question is “How does the business of making and distributing sports trading cards work and how has it changed over time?”  Sub questions are the questions that will help you answer your main inquiry question. I am really excited to start researching and learn more about sports cards!
