Technology Blog Post #4

During the fourth week of technology, we wrapped up our laser cutting designs and began to move into our next unit, soldering. To finish our previous unit, I created a bear keychain that was made using the laser cutter and drill press. The reason I had to use the drill press was because I accidentally engraved the place where the hole would go instead of cutting it. To fix that issue, I used the drill press which made a nice little hole. In addition to wrapping up our laser unit, we learned about the properties of metal. Specifically copper, silver and gold because those are the metals used most frequently for jewelry. Because we’re moving into our soldering unit, we had to learn about the different metals used to solder. I’m really excited to solder in technology because my dad is really into it and we have a lot of soldering material at home. I’ve made several things including an alarm clock, lightbulb, and clock in my own home, so I’m excited to see what I’m going to create in class.
