 WEEK AT A GLANCE

What you GET by achieving your goals is not near as important as what you BECOME by achieving your goals. - Zig Ziglar

Dear Colleagues,

I really miss you all and look forward to being back on Thursday.

See you soon!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Music Room Switch: Arrangements have been made for Lindsey and Enrique to switch rooms. John Greenaway will be coordinating the move with the custodial staff over the weekend. Please note, starting on Monday, September 23rd, Choral Music will be taught from Room 4 and Orchestra Music will return to the lower floor. As is expected for all specials, teachers must escort students to Music.  Please make sure students are aware of the need to move quietly along the corridors, giving respect to learners in classrooms and those working in offices.  The vestibule must be kept clear at all times, therefore, classes may not be kept in a holding pattern in the vestibule.
Grades 1, 2 and 3 should travel along the first- grade corridor using the maker space/nurse/Reading/LRC side of the hallway to avoid the grade 1 classroom doors that open into the hallway. Grades 4 & 5 should travel along the main office/Joan LRC/Staff Lounge Corridor. Students should walk along the courtyard side of the hallway to avoid doors that open into the hallway.

Faculty Photo will be taken on 11/15, not on Friday 9/27.

TC PD -Jess & Rebecca; Calendar Days: Jess and Rebecca have confirmed dates with us. On your Google calendar, see the GA Faculty Calendar for the dates by doing a search for “Jess Mazzone” and “Rebecca Cronin.”  Please also be cognizant of any TC Calendar days you registered for on Frontline. Be sure you also have recorded those dates on your calendars and that you have submitted the dates in Frontline in time to secure a sub.

Jess: 12/17, 1/24, 3/24, 5/14

Rebecca: 10/16, 11/26, 1/23, 5/28

Morning Arrival: All faculty enlisted for morning arrival should be at your designated posts no later than 8:25 when the first bell rings and students begin entering the building. If you are going to be late the office should be notified.

Construction: The Cherry Tree near to the OMPR had to be taken down, unfortunately. The summer blossoms will be missed, but we look forward to the post-construction landscaping plans.

Bathrooms: Please continue to give students reminders about the appropriate use of toilets. And a gentle reminder that disinfecting wipes should never be flushed. These measures along with the treatment of root invasion should address the clogging issues that have been encountered.

Goal Setting Meetings: We expect to begin goal setting meetings this week and will be sending you a google doc to sign up for a time that works best for you. In preparation for our conversations, here are some questions to guide your thinking.

  • What are your two goals?
    • Decide on one specific ELA Goal and one specific personal goal of your choice. (For example, but certinly not limited to…small group conferencing in reading workshop; using student assessments to inform your teaching in math.)
    • Your personal goal may be connected to previous professional goals or commitments, for example, Metamorphosis, Next Gen Science.
  • What might be some next steps to achieve those goals?
    • Professional development opportunities
    • Collaboration with colleagues -interclass visits
  • What kinds of supports or resources do you think you might need and how can we help?

Tri-States RTI Focus: The Tri-States visit with the district this year will focus on our practice around RTI. K-2 and 3-5 representatives from each school will be asked to serve on the District Steering Committee. As soon as we know more we will let you know.

Fall PTA Social Event: This year, the PTA will not be holding a large auction as they have done in the past, but will be holding a Fall Social Event. The event is scheduled for Thursday, 10/17 from 7:00pm -10:00pm at the Scarsdale Golf Club. You will be receiving a formal invitation from the PTA which will include complimentary tickets. Please mark the event on your calendars. Here is a heads-up: Teachers will not be asked to donate “events” as raffle prizes thi year, but if you would still like to, you are still welcome to do so. We will let you know more once this has been finalized by the PTA
