Spanish Restaurant

In Spanish class Sr. Johnson our Spanish teacher told us that we would be going to a Peruvian restaurant to eat all the different dishes in Peruvian culture and understand the culture. We reviewed in Spanish many times what we would say like please is “Por favor” and there was this really interesting drink called “Chicha Morada” (which I will get to later). We were very well prepared because Sr. Johnson taught us what the different dishes were made of and things like that.

So the day we went to the restaurant when we first walked in we basically filled up the whole restaurant (which looked very weird and funny) and we were assigned tables ahead of time so we went with our assigned people to a random seat. We started out with salad and bread as our entree and the salad had a very weird sauce that looked like mustard (It probably was mustard) but I wasn’t brave enough to try it. The bread and salad was actually very good and I noticed that the salad looked very fresh and had and impression that it came right out of a garden and into a plate. Then came the first dish which was a dish called “Pollo Saltado” which was like beef with french fries and an interesting thing was that the fries were at the bottom of everything so it soaked up all of the really good tasting sauce that was on the beef. It also came with rice which is very interesting because Sr. Johnson told us that many of the dishes were inspired by Chinese dishes and the rice just showed an example of that. The “Chicha Morada” was very interesting too because it was made of corn, cinnamon, lime/lemon, and pineapple! I didn’t know that it had pineapple in it until after I drank it. I wasn’t exactly expecting a lot out of tasting the “Chicha Morada” so I wasn’t to excited. The taste was…honestly horrible for me and everybody at my table (Jessica, Audrey, my mom, Jessica’s mom) all didn’t like it except for my mom. The taste was quite peculiar like if cinnamon water was a thing, that’s what it would have tasted like. The rest of the dishes were quite good except for this fish that tasted ok. The sauce was an orange colored sauce and the sauce tasted good but the fish was the problem, personally I didn’t like fish or any seafood anyways so I was already reluctant to try it but it just tasted horrible to me because it tasted like rotten vegetables (and the funny thing was all the adults liked it but all the kids didn’t).

Overall the experience at the restaurant was really fun and if I can still remember the name of the restaurant I would go there again. And I think it’s really interesting that all over the world the food all taste different even though it’s similar dishes.
