At first I wanted to study Italy, because I always wanted to learn about a country. My teacher told us we had to narrow down our idea. In other words narrow down what we are studying. When I started thinking of Italy I thought of pizza and I decided to study how and why is there an impact on pizza from Italy. While I was thinking of pizza I was also thinking of pizza restaurants, but then I got this idea how do you run a successful pizza restaurant. After that I thought to myself why should I do pizza, I want to study how do you run a successful restaurant. I was thinking of money and how much you pay your workers and commercials and secret recipes. The only problem was that there are so much restaurants and it still was such a big topic. Then I narrowed it down again and chose Shake Shack to be my example and that is the story of how I got from Italy to Shake Shack. I learned that this is how the thought process goes.
How I develop questions. This part was kind of easy because there was so much I could wonder about and follow up on. I had so many questions because I did not know that much about Shake Shack. I was lucky that I picked something that I am very passionate about and willing to do. I’m willing to visit Shake Shack and do work. My questions were so much different than my classmates. I did not know if i had the right questions. But, my teacher said that there is no such thing a wrong question. I have a different topic than anyone in my class. There was no other kid in the class doing something on a business. My questions ending up working out. It was a good start because it pushed me to research different topics and helped me to organize what I needed to do.
Doing the research was easy at first because there was so much information on Shake Shack. But, when I later tried to do some more research the same articles kept popping up. Then I decided to buy the Shake Shack Book that tells all the recipes and stories and when it came in the mail I was safe again. The book tells everything from the plan in the beginning to how and why they are a world wide phenomom. It took me awhile to figure out doing text structures on the computer. It took me a long time to do it on top of that, but once the teacher showed the class an example of what it should look like I got it.
My teacher always said take it one step at a time don’t think about the end process. She was right. I was thinking about doing a video of Italy but it all changed now i’m doing Shake Shack and have all of this research. I don’t know what I would’ve done if my teacher did not show me the thought process.
