Rube Goldberg – Post 3

Hello everyone,

Now that my group finished with the sketch we gathered supplies and we started to test out the machine. My teacher let us work on our project during recess because we all have complicated schedules so it’s hard for us to get together. We worked on making a couple things but mostly we just tried stuff out. We had a lot of fails but we also found a way to make it work and then it worked almost every time. Last night Emma and Karine came to my house to work on the project and make/find some of the items that we will use. I had so much fun try stuff out and building part of the machine. I’m so exited to finish it and to see how it turns out in the end.

Here is a video of us failing:

Here is a video of us succeeding.

Rube Goldberg – Post 2

Hello everyone,

Now that I’ve figured out what my task is going to be for my Rube Goldberg, we have to decide what we want to do for the steps leading up to our final task.

My group and I have come up with some ideas. We made a sketch of most of our plan, (we didn’t finish it yet) and we found some of the items that will be used to make the machine.

Once we finished the sketch we weren’t sure if typing a key was the easiest thing to do. We started thinking that pressing a button would be easier. Then Emma found out a easier way to type a key and we decided that we should do that. The next thing in the process is building the actual machine, I’m so exited!

This is a picture of the sketch we made:

Rube Goldberg – Post 1

Hello everyone,

A few days ago my class started working on a new science project, we’re making Rube Goldberg machines. Our teacher showed us some videos of people doing Rube Goldberg machines so we would get an idea of what to do. A Rube Goldberg machine is basically a chain reaction that’s really complicated but it does a really simple task.

First we picked partners or groups. I’m doing mine with my friends Emma and Karine. Then we made a shared doc that we could write some of our ideas on. Next thought of what to do for our task, we came up with four ideas:

-flushing a toilet

-turning on a light

-typing a key on a computer

-pressing an easy button

We realized that typing a key on the computer would be the easiest thing to do. I think my group works really well together and we have so much fun.

Reflection On Rocketry Presentation

Hello Everyone,

Today we had our rocketry presentations. I was so nervous I had butterflies in my stomach. During our rocketry unit we built and launched three rockets with our groups. There were 4 people in each group. My group name was the Radical Rockets. during our unit we also had to make slideshow of the process. When we finished our whole slideshow we had to work on memorizing all of our lines. I’m really bad at memorizing so I had to read through my lines so much. Before the presentations I was so nervous and I was also nervous while presenting. When I looked at the parents I kept forgetting my lines but when I looked at my friends I remembered, I think I got nervous when I looked at the parents and that’s why I forgot my lines. I  stuttered once but the rest was really good. When I was done I felt so relived and so happy that it was finished. I loved the rocketry unit but presenting in front of my parents just made me scared. I came so far, from not knowing how to build a rocket, to becoming an expert.

This is the video of our rocketry slideshow:

-clase de
-mathematics
-education fisica
-menos
-veintinueve y treinta y cinco

2: ¿Qué nuevas preguntas usaste?
-que hora es
-¿A qué hora es la clase de inglés?
-¿A qué hora es la clase de matemáticas?

3: How would you grade your work on this Screencast? (sobresaliente = A) (notable = B)
Sobresaliente=A

4: After listening to your screencast what words do you feel you could have practiced more? Quiero practicar las palabras ………
-hora
-que
-almuerzo
-musica

5: How could you use this new vocabulary outside of Spanish class?
I could speak in spanish to my babysitter because she is fluent.

Book Clubs: Eight Keys – Jot 1

So far in the book Eight Keys I don’t understand why it’s a mystery because the keys don’t lead to something mysterious. The key just lead to a room with pictures of her mom and a chair with a bear sitting on it and it the bears hand there was a letter from her dad that he wrote before he died (Elise’s parents both died when she was little). The letter didn’t have anything that had to do with mystery in it. I’m thinking that the mystery is having to find the keys and seeing what’s inside each room. I also think that part of the adventure is getting to know her parents a little bit more. Over all I don’t think the book has that much mystery in it.

Disney World/Lego Land

Hi everyone,

When I was 7 I went to Disney world and Lego land. I had so much fun.In Disney world we got a private tour guide (she was so nice). She had front of the line passes so we got to go on all of the rides a bunch of times without having to wait for a really long time. I don’t like roller coasters (especially when I was little) so I didn’t go on a lot of the roller coasters but I did go on some of the less fast ones (that I wouldn’t throw up on) and they were really fun But I did go on one that was really fast and I almost threw up on that I really hated, but that was at the start of the day so I didn’t end off on a bad note. When we went on the rides one of my brothers would go with the tour guide and sit in front or behind us and I would usually sit with my parents and my other brother, but once or twice I sat with the tour guide. At Lego land we didn’t have a tour guide but we did get front of the line passes. We went on so many really cool rides there. Every thing was made out of Lego.I rode a Lego car and I got a fake drivers licence, that was my favorite ride. There was this Lego guy sitting on a bench making sleeping noises that had the same hair as my dad so we took a picture of my dad with the statue. When we went for lunch there was another Lego statue saying “Pizza Pizza, Get your pizza here.I had so much fun in Disney world and Lego land.

California

Hey Guys,

I went to California over winter break. It was so much fun. My family stayed in Hollywood at this really fun hotel. We saw so many cool things. These are just some of the things we did. One cool thing was that when we looked out of our window we saw the Hollywood sign, But it was pretty far away so one of the activities we did was hiking to the Hollywood sign. When we got close enough to the Hollywood sign we took pictures and we got this great picture of me wearing my sunglasses looking like a movie star. It was awesome! We hiked with our family friends, but they didn’t go all the way. Another fun thing we did was go to Universal Studios. We went with our other family friends. When we went we did cool rides and we got a tour of where they filmed the movies. The lines were so long so we bought front of the line passes, which was great because if we didn’t it would take us 2 hours to go on a 5 minute ride. But instead it was only about a five minute wait (or less some rides were only a 2 minute wait). The next fun things we did was go on the WB studio tour which is where you get to see the places your favorite shows or movies were filmed. I also got to see my cousins one of them already graduated collage and the other one is a grown up. When we saw my cousin that is a grown up we went to the restaurant that he works at (he is the head chef) we got so much food and we got to go to the kitchen to see where they cooked. When we saw my other cousin (he was with his girlfriend) we went to La Brea Tar Pits which is where you see the bones of some animals that came out of pits of tar and then we got to see the pits of tar. We did so many cool things in California and I highly recommend going there.

Camp

Hello everybody,

this summer will be my third year of camp at Tyler Hill, and I’m so exited. We do lots of fun activities at camp such as, gymnastics, cooking, swimming, basketball, soccer and much more. We also get time to hang out with our friends. A couple weeks ago I went shopping with my camp friends at Denny’s for camp stuff. We got a lot of matching outfits. At camp you get to bring a lot of your own stuff to make your bunk look nicer and to make it more like home. At the end of everyday at camp we do a different activity such as, scavenger hunt, trash fashion show (where you make an outfit for one member of your bunk out of unused garbage bags), plays based off of a theme and each person in the age group puts one item into there bunks  laundry bag, every group gets one laundry bag and the items in it are used to act out the play, every night at camp we have a different evening activity. Camp has so many fun things to do and I love going to camp.
