Tundra’s

Tundra’s
There are three different types of tundras. The Arctic tundra,The Antarctic tundra and the Alpine tundra. The tundra has a very cold ecosystem for most months so it is extremely hard to live there and the animals and plants that do are survivors.

Where are tundras located?

The Arctic tundra’s are located in Russia, Alaska, Canada, Greenland and scandinavia. The Antarctic tundra is located in Antarctica and the alpine tundra is located on most mountain tops. Most mountain tops are pretty cold. Sometimes it can be 80 degrees at the bottom of the mountain and then it can be 35 degrees on top of the mountain with snow on the ground in summer.

Producers
Being a producer in a tundra could be a hard job especially in the winter! Only 1,700 plants live on the tundra and most grow in the summer. Some of the most common producers are moss and lichen. Lichen is half algae and half fungi so it also is a decomposer. Lichen does not have roots and usually grows on rocks and moss grows together on the ground. Many plants grow berries during the summer, some of the berries are blueberries, crowberries, cloudberries.

Consumers

These are some of the tundra consumers! The Arctic fox is one, the Arctic fox is in the dog family and it’s the only one that changes it fur color, They usually make their homes in the side of a hill of cliff. The polar bear is another Arctic animal the polar bear is very patient, It shows it is patient when it waits for it food, Seals. Another Tundra animal is the norway lemming it is like a field mouse ,and their behavior is tied to weather. There are many more consumers like the Arctic hare, Ivory Gull, Reindeer (caribou),Snow Bunting, Snowy owls. All or most of these animals have a big coat of fat and fur to stay warm and survive. Most common animals are pest such as Blackflies, tinym dages, and mosquitos.

Decomposers

On the tundra there is not many decomposers. The most common decomposer is not just a decomposer it also a producer. The decomposer is Lichen it is half algae and half fungi.

Unique features
Some unique features are the extremely cool shrubs and sometimes small trees. On Alpine tundras you probably will find dwarf trees
They are twisted into fantastic shapes from the freezing wind and are found at the tree line boundary.

Human impact

Humans for the majority do not have a good impact on tundras. Humans build factories and buildings on tundras. They also build homes and roads which make the animals on the tundra lose there home and make them relocate.
Air pollution from the humans can get into the moss and lichen which the animals eat and it can make the animals very ill or could make them die. Vehicles and automobiles also ruin the tundra land. The good things humans do are limited but there are some like when scientist study the tundra to teach people how to save it and other big or small things.

conclusion

The tundra is a very cold and twisted place. It has has many rocks and hills. Sometime for the animals it can be hard to find food but they end up doing it. Still even though it is cold and have some challenges it has life and some animals and humans do call it home.
