4th technology blog post

This a week I am sanding my box. Since we cut the wood last week there were a lot of rough edges and splinters. So this week I have to sand my front, back, side, and other side. Not my top and bottom yet because I have to do that later. But right now I am sanding my pieces to make them smooth. So I can make all my pieces the same measurement and shape.

3rd technology blog post

This week we measured the dimensions for our box. I decided to do a 5 by 5 box. I measured the dimensions are marked were I should cut the wood. I did all of that then finally it was time to saw. First I put my wood into a vise and screwed it really tight. Then I got a saw and cut right were my line was. Next I cut my wood all the way down to make a perfect line. The edges were very rough, but we would sand later

What I Notice as a Reader and as a Writer (Graphic Novels)

We have different units in reading, right now it’s graphic novels. Mr. Deberry is teaching us graphic novels. I think that I have became a better reader because sense it shorter and it has less words on a page. I re read so I think that I understand the book more. After we read some graphic novels, we started to get into writing them. You could do your graphic novel with a partner or by yourself. I decided to do it with a partner, My partner is Om. The graphic novel was really hard and it took a lot of time and effort. There was a lot of obstacles, like we had to make some parts of the story up along the way. We had to do that because in our draft we made it like 4 pages because we didn’t have that much time and when we have to make it from 5-9 pages. So we needed to make up most of the story along the way. We also had to do some of the pages for homework, but finally we finished it. It was really fun making the graphic novel and I also had a really good time.

Capstone Interview and Site Visit

For my Capstone I’m doing virtual reality. I have to do an interview and a site visit. I have already done my interview. For my interview, it took me sometime to figure out who I wanted to interview? I was thinking who invented virtual reality? Then I realized that there is no way he would write back. So I kept thinking, who could I interview? Then I started to think, would if I emailed somebody who worked for making virtual reality, or an owner of a virtual reality shop? So I decided to email somebody that owned or worked at a virtual reality shop. So I decided to give it a shot but nothing really came up. So next I thought what if I search for virtual reality museum. Nothing really came up so I thought  what if I  scroll down. Then something came up. It said virtual reality museum nyc. I decided to look at it so  I clicked on it. It showed a museum in ny I couldn’t the problem is that I didn’t have time because I had a state cup soccer game, basketball game, and a baseball game and practice. So I didn’t have time to go there so I was about to leave the website, but then I noticed that I didn’t do my interview.  So I decided to email them and they answered I was so happy. They wrote back saying that he (Jason Hoffman) has a eleven year old daughter. I was so happy that he wrote back because in all honesty, I thought he wouldn’t write back, but I guess he did. So then I emailed him all of my questions and a few days later he wrote back. I thought that he would write back a little later because I had 18 questions. Then I wrote him a thank you letter. I was so happy that I was done with that.

So next I had to figure out where to go for my site visit. So at my house It took a long time. So I decided to email my teacher to ask her what she thinks. She wrote back and told me that it is hard to go on a virtual reality site visit. So I don’t have to do a site visit, but right now I’m working on getting another interview, because you are allowed as many interviews and site visits as possible. I think that my next interview is going to be with Purdue. I’m probability going to interview the quarterback coach because he teaches the Purdue, by using virtual reality. So far I am having a lot of fun doing my interview.

Check out my interview questions, and what he said about it!

  1. Does the VR experience hurt your eyes because it is so close, and if it does, how? If it doesn’t, please explain.

The vr experience is intended to create a fully immersive experience tricking the eyes to adjust to a 360 environment.  If you use premium hardware and headsets you should not have any eye strain.

  1. Why was virtual reality created?

VR has been around for twenty years educating various industries to adjust to real life situations within VR first.

  1. What are the uses of virtual reality?

VR has limitless opportunities across categories (Entertainment, Health & wellness, Travel, Medical and Real Estate

  1. What equipment do they need to develop VR?

Unity is a program that developers mostly use to create rendered VR content

  1. How much planning leads into the development of VR and how much money is spent?

It is on a case by case basis.  Projects can range from a few thousand to millions of dollars.  Planning also varies but a project could last from a number of months to years.

  1. Does VR help scientists and doctors study certain things like the human body?

Yes – The medical industry is one of the largest groups to adapt the technology into their everyday life.

  1. What skills do you need to create virtual reality attractions, and how long does it take to develop them?

You would need to have an education from coding, technology mechanics and graphic design

  1. How do the creators develop the realistic aspects of virtual reality?

Some developers use real life models as reference.

  1. On average, how long does it take to develop one VR headset?

Not sure on this one.  VR World using all of the latest VR headsets though.

  1. When you view something using VR, how do you think it can change the way you see that same item in “real life?”

Vr has the potential to change your perception of the worlds or a social issue.  The feeling of being immersed into an environment or someone else’s shoes is a very powerful tool.

  1. How has VR changed over time?

The VR industry has exploded in the last 2 years giving rise to location based entertainment centers like VR World.

  1. As technology changes (cell phones), do headsets also need to change in size?

VR technology is on a path to wearables where mobile devices will soon come or evolve themselves into fashionable eye wear that you can instantly display augmented reality graphics or transport yourself to a VR world.  All tech will become smaller, cheaper and faster

  1. How is the process of making a VR app different than creating a regular app?

I am not sure

  1. How are some VR with controls different from a VR with no controls?

I am not sure.  Most headsets come with controllers to allow players to see their digital hands in an experience.

  1. Does VR help students?

Yes in fact VR World has an education program offering workshops for students from grade K to post grad school.  We use the STEAM program to introduce and educate mixed media to a new generation that will be leading the industry someday.

Graphic Novel Post

In class we have different reading units like non fiction, social issues, and fantasy. Our next unit is graphic novels. A heathcote teacher that retired, is now teaching us about graphic novels. The first thing we did was that we read graphic novels. Just to get a taste of it. Then, we started to get into jotting about our graphic novel, and we also started to get into harder books. After we finished that, we started to write a book, with a partner, or by yourself. I decided to do it with a partner, Om is my partner. It took us a lot of time and effort but we finally finished it. Please read down below. If you can’t acess it then click on this link to read it. http://blogs.scarsdaleschools.org/cboyer/graphic-novels/ (the blurb is on the back)

Rude Goldberg Fails And Why It Happend (Continued)…

Since we moved everything up we needed to bring the golf ball and jenga. Our goal was to get a ball into a baketball hoop. We decided to shoot a nurf gun that knocks down jenga then tht rolls on a ramp. Then that hits a bunch a jenga’s in a triangle that hits the last jenga on a pully that goes and hit a lot more jengas that hit a ball that goes into a hoop on the floor. At the start the one ramp didn’t work we needed to so we pushed everything back and added another ramp. Then it keeped hitting a line of the jenga then the last jenga would miss the jenga that hits the one that goes straight and to the pully. So we made one line.

Rude Goldberg Fails And Why It Happend

At the start we had a nurf gun that hits jenga blocks standing up that hit a ball that rolls down the steps and hit a race car on a ramp, but because the race car was on a ramp it wouldn’t stay. So we had to put a toothpick to hold it up. The problem with that was the ball didn’t have that much power and it would rarley get close to the car so we knew we had to put something besides a car. We also noticed that we the race car went down the ramp the car would not go straight it would always curve. The car would curve all the way to the right then so much to the left. We knew that we could not use a car. We tried using a golf ball but it was still to heavy. We would running out of ideas. We were stumped!☹️ Then we had an idea we can do the same thing but start down stairs, and move everything up.💡 That worked.  It would also be easyier so the ball dosen’t have to go down the steps. Then we needed to do the rest.

Rude goldberg Obstacle #Number Two

The second obstacle that I we had to face was that, we hade to get together and discuss when we were free our when we had nothing. That was our groups biggest struggle because, Arav and I were both skiing after school in vermont and we had to leave right after school because it is a four hour trip. so nobody was free Friday Saturday or Sunday. That’s three days gone. Then Monday Arav had cello 1 hour away. Tuesday and Thursday we also were not free so the only free day we had was Thursday after 4:30 because Asher has a trainer but then before 7:00 because Asher and I have a basketball game till 9:00. I just relized that we all have busy schedules. I also learned that some obstacles are hard to face and complete,  sometimes you have to figure out a way to get around it, but if you try try again then you will achieve your goal, because nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it.
