Plant Bog Post #4

On our plants there are seed pods.  Seed pods are exactly what you think it is. A pod for seeds. Seed pods keep the seeds in them from blowing away. A seed pod is smooth and green. It looks like a green thing with bumps on the outside but it is much more. You can open a seed pod and get more seeds. That is the plant cycle.

 

The plant cycle is how more plants are planted from another plant. This is how it works. First you plant a seed and wait for it to grow and soon you see a flower. Once you see a flower, you start polination. The flowers eventually die out and that means seed pods will form. After you see a seed pod you can open them when they are really big. You should see a brown seed. After you have the seed, you can plant the seed so you have a Wisconsin Fast Plant!

 

If a seed is actually a seed in the seed pod, it should be brown and rough. Some seeds might turn out green but those did not grow so if would get smushed. The seed pod is green with lumps.  I am wondering how the seeds will sped  and make now seeds in the wild if nobody can pick off the seeds. 

CU – France

To start we had to pick our country and a partner you want to work with. After that we got to the books. We had several of them to do our research with. We collected information in a packet and separate them into different categories. We put them in categories depending on which Cultural Universals they are in. After we had gathered all of our research we started on the comic books. The five Cultural  Universals are Politics, Social Aspects, Economics, Beliefs, and Cultail arts. The title of our book is  “CU – France.” My favorite part of the whole thing is the characters because you can be creative as you like and you can make anything that relates to your county. I also liked seeing how different France is from here. I thought it was challenging to do the fact boxes because it had to relate to what you were saying and what the picture is. Also it was hard knowing if the picture you put in is actually the thing. Once we were trying to find a picture of the louvre but we spelled it wrong and it ended up to be the white house! Also it was hard knowing if you should put your fact box on the left or on the right.

Cultral Universals

 These are CU ( cultural universals) about me. The first one is politics. The people who set rules in my house are my mom and my dad. My mom and dad set the rules in my house so things are not all over the place and everything does not go crazy. One rule I have in my house is to clean up. We have that rule because if we did not clean up then things would be all over and things would never be clean. One law that affects how my family lives is we have to pay tax. That affects my family because we get the services that the town offers.

 

The second CU is Social Aspects. My school name is Heathcote. I go to school 30 hours a week and I go to school 5 days a week. My favorite subject is writing. Some different thing we do in third grade are area and perimeter, expert books, and also character studies. On weekends I play outside or have playdates and sleepovers. I was a part of a gymnastics team. In my  house rooms thAt are most used are my living room because in there, there is a couch, a TV, and you can do your homework in there. I live with my sister, my brother, my mom, and my dad. In my house we celebrate birthdays by having a birthday party of having cake and singing happy birthday. I play board games a lot and I play outside with my friends and my brother and my sister.

 

The third CU is Beliefs. My family is jewish. Some holidays that we celebrate are Chanukah, Rashasha, Birthdays, Passover, and Thanksgiving. A family celebration is my birthday. A family tradition that is in my family is every passover we celebrate it at either my house or my cousins house. One thing my family believes in is being king and a good person. Three ways my family travel is by boat, plane, and car. I want to be a gymnast when I grow up because it is fun and active. My close come from stores. My house is made of wood and stuko.

 

My favorite movie is “Grace.” I like it because I like baking and it is all about baking. My favorite book is called “Sweet. I like sweet because Sweet is about candy in every chapter and I Love candy! I don’t know what my favorite song is but my favorite play is called” School of Rock.” I like it because it is cool. My favorite museum is the museum of natrual history because there is a lot of stuff you can see there. I do hip hop. I also play a instrument. I play gutar. I started around two months ago. I like to listen to music about candy because I love candy so I like hearing about it.

 

Here’s why I put the labels that I put on the map. For E (Economics) I put the label on Lord and Taylor because you can shop there and I go there sometimes. I also put a E on the highway because it is transportation. Last I put a E on Balducci’s because it is a store and you bye food there. The reason I put things on CA ( Cultural Arts) is this. I put it on the Greenburg  nature center because you can go there and it is a activity. I also put a CA on the golf cores. I did it because sometimes I go there and it is also a activity. That is it for CA. Next there is SA( Social Aspects.) I put a SA on the middle school, the high school, and Heathcote school.  I put a SA on those because those places are schools and at school you get education. I put a P on the village of scarsdale because that is where the mayor lives. And finally I put a B the temple because you go there and it is a religion.

Technology is…

What makes something technology is if the object solves problems and it is new and useful to people. You might think it is just electronics like a cell phone computer i pad i pod video game controller but it is not.

My object is a ice cube tray. It looks like a flat tray with holes in it but the holes are meant for the ice. What makes a ice cube tray technology is it helps you make ice yourself easily instead of buying it. All you do is put water in the tray a freeze it. Also it helps you store ice in a good place but it is not a random thing to store you ice in, a ice cube tray is meant to store your ice in it. If you have a ice cube tray you no longer have to store ice in a cold bin. You can just store it in a ice cube tray in your freezer.

A ice cube tray is made out of plastic.

The properties of a ice cube tray is light, hard, rough, rigid, colored, and pointed.

Plant Blog Post #3

This is our third blog post on plants. We started cross pollinating our plants. Pollination is so the plants get fertilized and seeds can form in the plant. To pollinate our plants we used a q – tip. With the q – tip we touched a pistol. Then we touched a pistol of another plant so it fertilizes the plant. Now since we pollinated the plant seed pods are starting to form. Seed pods have tiny seeds in it so that people can plant new plants with the seeds. On seed pods there is a green coding thing that keeps the seeds from blowing away. Our plant has a itsy bitsy seed pod but you can’t really see it.  

 

Now the flowers on our plants are dying out. That means seed pods are going to form! Also on our manipulated plant there are buds that are dying and they are pink and we think it is because instead of water we are using red food coloring. On the controlled it is green because we did not change anything. The highest height is around 14 cm!

 

I think that our plants will form bigger seed pods and if you meger them they will be 3 – 4 cm high. because ours are really small. I also think that next week the plants will be about 15 cm. Also that the seed pods might turn a little pink since the buds are pink. 

 

Plants #2

This is our second blog post about plants. We have been doing this for about 13 days. A lot has changed. Now here is some information on the controlled quad. At first the plant that we are growing was a itsy bitsy plant. Now our plant that was itsy bitsy is up to 13 cm! On the second day the plant grew up to 6 cm. On the fourth day the plants really sprung up! The highest was 10 cm! The color of our controlled plant is light green. Two plants are growing in each sell and there are four sells. That means we are growing 8 plants in each quad! They grow about one cm every two days. Now since the plants are so high they got buds! The buds recently turned to bright yellow flowers!

 

Now here is some information on the manipulated quad. The color of the manipulated is a little pink and you might be wondering why. Well, it is a speck of pink because to manipulate our plant we added red food coloring and because we mixed the food coloring together, on the plant it turned pink. The manipulated quad is also about 13 cm high. Now on the 13th day of our manipulated plant bright yellow flowers are lying on top of our plant and our manipulated plant has flowers to so right now I don’t think the red food coloring water is affecting our plant.  There is something in the flower called the pistil. The pistil is something in the plant that pollinats the plant.

 

At first our plants were drupy so Mrs. DeGrazia put a stick through the plants and now it is holding upbecause there is a clear thing that holds the plant to the stick. Our plants are turning out the way they are because we took good care of it and we want to find out what will happen next and that will be soon!

Plants #1

For our planting we have two quads. One is controlled. Controlled is one where nothing changes. All of it is the same. The other quad is called manipulated. Manipulated is a quad where you change one thing. You only change one thing because if we changed more than one thing then if the plant does not grow you won’t know which thing that you changed did the damage to the plant or if both things you decided to manipulate caused the damage to your plant.

 

How we set up each caud was like this. First we put in a wick to absorb water, acting like a root so it can give water to the plant. Next we added a little bit of soil about half way up. After that we put in three fertilizer pellets. Then we put in more soil over it. After that we put  the seeds in. We poked a hole in the soil with our finger. Then we put in two and seeds and now two plants are growing in each quad. After that we had to cover it up and then our plant was ready!

 

We have been doing this for seven days. I have noticed a lot in the seven days. On the first day nothing much happened. There was just a little plant on the quad that was around a mm high. For the next six days the plant was a lot bigger and now it is around five cm! It is like a person growing into a adult. Around day four it started to grow very high. Then day five came and it was crazy if you think that it grew that much in three days! Now on day seven the plant is about six cm high!

 

Now since you change only one thing we don’t see much of a change in our plant. My group decided to water the plant with food coloring instead of water. We have been manipulating it for two days so right now our plants are a little droopy. We each had a hypothesis. My hypothesis was if we add food coloring to the plant, then it will still grow, because food coloring has water in it. Also my group is wondering if the plant will turn a little bit red because we used red food coloring and we put it in the soil so it might go under the plant to the roots and the roots might  turn a little red and cause the plant to turn a little red.
