Passion Project #1

In class we have just started passion projects! We get to pick a passion that we have and get to study it and make something out of what you have learned. I picked baking, because my Mom is a baker and makes beautiful custom cakes. I have been very interested in what it is like to make such a complicated cake, so I wanted to try it out myself ,so I am recreating one of my Moms cakes! I have been studying bakers and have learned a lot, one of the big things that I noticed was that all bakers have their own style in baking, and come up with such cool cakes that you would not know even know  was a cake. I am super excited to start baking my cake and do more research on my passion.

I have started to research what I have research on is:

Yolanda Gampp’s youtube video – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiTrN8wnEF4

Cake – definition – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cake

Duff Goldman – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duff_Goldman

Interview questions – I will be interviewing Mom

I am super excited to start baking my cake and do more research on my passion.

Rube Goldberg project #5

My group and I are done with are Rube Goldberg! I am so happy 😁 we have worked so hard on our Rube Goldberg, and it is all finally done. Are Rube Goldberg took 20 tries, but all of our hard working totally paid off and Archie even made an appearance ( you will see the video of my Rube Goldberg in my next blog post.) I learned  a lot from Rube Goldberg like who Rube Goldberg, or to keep on trying, and to think outside the box etc. Rube Goldberg was such a fun project to do and I would totally do again!

3 sentence summary on the Way to Bea

In “ the way to Bea” by Kat Yeh, Bea loves to write haiku with invisible ink and putting it in a hole in a wall that no one knows about, then one day someone writes back, she is trying figure out who could be writing back on top of that were she fits in. She is going through one more huge change in her life she is becoming a big sister and has to pick the perfect middle name for her. And will her old best friend start talking to again, or will they just ignore each other for the rest of 7th grade?

Rube Goldberg project #4

My group and I are doing really well with are Rube Goldberg it is coming together very nicely  and I am very happy with it. The one thing that is super frustrating is that the dominos are super hard to work with they keep on falling or getting knocked over, so my group and I have been struggling with that a lot. Another problem is also with the dominos we want the dominos to go up a stack of books, but it is not working out so we are trying to figure out how to make that work. Other than those 2 problems are Rube Goldberg is doing great. We are meeting up over the weekend and working on are Rube Goldberg so we will probably be done or almost be done by then, so I am super excited for that. And hopefully we can make a successful Rube Goldberg are feed the Hedgehog.😁

Rube Goldberg project #3

Today we started building our Rube Goldberg there was not too many changes to our idea we are planning to stick to our sketch. Our Rube Goldberg is going great, I am very excited to see what will happen when we have our final Rube Goldberg is done. It is a lot harder to build the Rube Goldberg then I thought it would be. There has been some ups and downs with our Rube Goldberg one down was that the dominos were very hard to do, because they kept on falling. One up was that our ramp that we made out of toilet paper rolls is working really well! I am really proud of our Rube Goldberg!

Rube Goldberg project #2

For Rube Goldberg we made sketches of our design, we label and draw what we wanted our Rube Goldberg to look like. I think our sketch is going very well so far we are making changes as we build. The items that we have in our Rube Goldberg are books, golf balls, car tracks, dominos, keva planks, toy car, ping pong ball, popsicle sticks, and ramps. One of my favorite parts about our Rube Goldberg is when the golf ball goes down a ramp and on to a track then hits a huge path do domins it is very cool to watch all of the domins to get knocked down. I am really enjoying rube Goldberg so far it is really fun. I hope it works and that we can feed the hedgehog.

Panyee FC

In Koh Panyee, 1986, a group of boys wanted to create a soccer team not knowing where it was going to take them. These boys live on a floating village with not a lot of space. How could they make a soccer team? How could they make somewhere to play soccer? The boys from Panyee FC were terrific problem solvers. With teamwork and creativity, a legacy was born.

The boys had  no one to teach them how to play soccer, because no one had ever played the game on the floating village before, so they had to teach themselves. The boys  had to be each others coaches, because no one supported them. This shows that the boys must have had a very good friendship and had faith in each other. The boys had some knowledge on how to play through watching soccer on a small T.V, but that was not enough to become a soccer team . Even though the boys had no one to teach them how to play soccer, they still got so far and almost won a big tournament because they always had faith no matter what. They always found a way to fix their problems.

In order to play soccer with their limited space the boys put their heads together  and they came up with a great a great idea, to make a floating pitch. They made it out of old wood and rafts tied together, even thought it was uneven, had nails sticking out everywhere, and shaky, but they still played on it and had fun. The boys built the pitch all by themselves without any help. Not knowing how to build a pitch they still did it. Without any  grown up help, because no one had faith in them but they still did it and became an amazing soccer team because they alway believe in themselves.

There was a rainstorm when the panyee boys were playing in their big tourment at the semifinals, their shoes were beginning to fill up with water. So they took off their shoes, because  it was normal for them to playing on their bare feet and also had very good foot work from playing on their small pitch. And even the score, unfortunately last minute the other team

scored a goal and they lost the tournament. Even though the boys lost they were still proud of themselves for how far they had come with not knowing how to play then to becoming world champions, now that is amazing to me. The boys always find a way to solve their problems even in the worst of times.

In Conclusion to this essay Panyee FC really showed that you should never give up on your dreams, even if someone does not have faith in you,  keep on going if you fail that just means try a different way. Don’t listen to people who don’t have faith in you or don’t believe in you keep on  going. Follow your dreams, because if you don’t try you will never know what could of happened.

Recycling

Today Monica came in and talk to us about recycling and reusing. Our first activity was write or draw 3 things that can be disassembled easily, write or draw 3 things that can’t be disassembled easily, write or draw 3 things that can change shape and how. Monica gave us tin foil to mold and create things out of it. Our second activity she told us to make something we could wear, I made myself a bracelet and held it together with playdoh. Then she told us to unfold our creations and  make something for your partner , I made a ball, because it was really hard to unfold my bracelet and my tin foil ripped so the only thing I could think of was to make a ball.

Our third activity was to take bottle caps, pins, nails, and clips out of a box not using are hands so we had to make something out of 3 materials only to help us take the items out of the box and sort them into groups. We got split into 2 groups and worked with a pattern only one tool that we made together, and got assigned one item to take out of the box together. It was really hard not to use your hand to take out the items, I even hurt myself trying to take out one of the pins.

Then we learned that how we were sorting all of the items that is what recycling factories have to do every day. We also learned how plastic water bottles get recycled, they get melted the recused into a new item. From all of the actives and learning how we can reuse a lot of things I realized that you don’t always have to throw something away and you can reuse it or make it into something else. How I can help things get recycled easier I can disassemble plastic bottle before I throw them a away and reuse them also carry around a water bottle more so I don’t have to buy a plastic bottle.

Rube Golgbreg project #1

The Rube Goldberg project started on January 28th. I am really enjoying Rube Goldberg, it is a lot of fun, and you get to use your creativity and imagination  My group (Izzy and Sophie) and I have been doing pretty good on the project, we finished the sketch and have an idea of how we are going to put it all together. The goal for our Rube Goldberg is to feed Izzy’s Hedgehog.  Rube Goldberg was born on July 4th 1883 and died on December 7th 1970. Rube Goldberg was a cartoonist, sculptor, author, engineer, and inventor. He best known for his cartoons and amazing and complicated gadgets the did simple task in a very cool way. I am very excited to see how are Rube Goldberg turns out!
