Poetry Lesson

Enjoy exploring poetry in a different way today! Get inspired by a beautiful piece of poetry and create some art that shows what you see in your mind. Or go outside and find something that inspires you in nature to be descriptive and create your own poetry. Please complete at least one of these activities today. Post a picture of your artwork or nature item, and then use the microphone to read aloud the poem to go with it.

The slideshow Mrs. Mangan presented above is linked here so you can look at it closer for each center.

Math – Mass and Compound Units

Today in the video you will learn that you can weigh objects in compound units, kilograms and grams. You will see examples of enlarged scales and discuss the value of each unlabeled mark. This video will help you understand how to read different weighing scales. Also, you will look at a balance scale instead of a weighing scale to measure the mass of an object.

Math workbook pages 15-16 (Due today – link from yesterday if you haven’t already completed them.)

Below visit Thinking Blocks to revisit bar modeling strategies. You can select a model to challenge yourself to different word problems. Read the word problems, label the bars, create the actual bar models and solve the problem.  This great website guides you and gives you hints along the way to be successful solving word problems by drawing a bar model .

Final Day for the Heathcote Community Service Project!

Heathcote Community Service Project – Show them WE CARE!

We would like to welcome all our 3rd grade friends and family to extend our deepest gratitude to those working hard to save lives at our local White Plains Hospital! Our Heathcote Community Service Committee is working alongside Friends of White Plains Hospital for an Art Drive so we can all express our appreciation! Your small gesture will bring smiles to all those working hard to help others in need!

Here’s how you can participate:

This week from April 10th – April 17th, you can create a special handmade drawing, painting, or sketch for all the care providers at White Plains Hospital.

When completed, place it in a ziplock bag and drop your creation off at 51 Lawrence Road. There will be a donation bin located at the front door.

Ongoing Project – COVID-19 Time Capsule

One activity that many students completed during “Wellness Week” was a COVID – 19 Time Capsule. If you didn’t, here is a great opportunity to reflect over how this historical event is impacting you. We are living through history and during times like these, it might be interesting to take notes about your experience and reflect on what you are going through so that years from now, you can look back on this time capsule and realize you have experienced a very historic moment in our world’s history!
