Joshua Bingwa – What Makes Us Different

“We humans are not so different from every other living creature. We are not the amazing breakthrough in life in this universe. We are just the same. Except for one thing. A power hidden deep inside of us. A power that has allowed us to evolve into the advanced civilization that we are now. Without this power, we would still be living in caves. This power is the power to question. The power to ask: why can’t we cross our limitations? The power to ask why can’t we fly? Why can’t we go faster? Without this, we would just be no different from the monkeys swinging in the trees.” This is what Joshua Bingwa said in his speech about What Makes Us Different. He talks about how even the smallest action we make can greatly effect what happens next.

First, he started talking about the bee. A tiny insect, but without it, crops would die, farmers would go hungry, and tribes would die out. This tiny insect that so many things in life rely on it’s survival. This connects to the fact that we human beings don’t think about how our actions can affect the world around us with even the tiniest thing we do. This lesson really connects me because, I hate to admit it, but a lot of times I do things without thinking about the consequences. I take action without worrying about what comes next. I think this is a big problem that we humans face, and we need to start thinking about what we are doing, and become more aware of what happens after we do things. There are other people in the world, and we have to start thinking about what happens to THEM after we take action.

I totally agree. Especially now, when people keep going out and gathering in large groups in spite of the dangers of becoming a vector. It’s sad to read people writing about how the coronavirus is “no big deal,” “fake news,” or “just like the flu.” For a lot of people it’s no joke. I think people are starting to realize that now, so maybe people will just stay home for a while and things will start getting better.
