Plant Experiment #2

My group’s question was: Could a plant live without sunlight? My hypothesis was: If I give my plant no sunlight then it will still grow, because plants outside grow all the time.

I have been watching the growth of my plant and it is really improving! It is healthy and bright green. The leaf and bud number is going from 6 leaves and 0 buds to 8 leaves and 0 buds to 16 leaves and……… WE HAVE BUDS! To 13 leaves and 2 buds. The height is growing from 6 cm to 6.5 cm to 10 cm to 10 cm. In two weeks my plant grew from 0.5 cm-10 cm and while my plant used to be only 0.5 cm it has now grown into a 10 cm, big healthy plant!

This is a photo of my control plant without buds.

My manipulated plant has been doing a lot of growth, but not as well as my control plant. It is wilting and is a pale yellow. The leaf and bud number is going from 6 leaves and 0 buds to 6 leaves and 0 buds to 6 leaves and 0 buds to 6 leaves and 0 buds to 6 leaves and 0 buds. The height is growing from 9 cm to 9.5 cm to 7 cm to 7.5 cm to 7 cm. In two weeks my plant has gone from being very tall to being short and wilting and while my plant started out well, it is now wilting, looking like it was crushed to the ground!

This is a photo of my manipulated plant just as it started wilting.

I think it happened this way, because it might have just wanted sunlight, but since it found no sunlight it died.

Plant Experiment

In class Mrs. Luciano is teaching us about plants. Our group’s question is What is the effect of no sunlight on a plant’s growth? My hypothesis is if I give my plant no sunlight then it will still grow, because plants outside do it all the time. Our control plant has water, sunlight, air and soil. Our manipulated plant has no sunlight.

This week I’m noticing a lot! My control plant is green with 6 leaves and 0 buds to 7 leaves and 0 buds to 8 leaves and 0 buds. The height is growing from 3.5 cm to 4 cm to 5 cm. My manipulated plant is yellow and wilting and has had 6 leaves and 0 buds to 4 leaves and 0 buds to 7 leaves and 0 buds. The height is growing from 6 cm to 7 cm to 7 cm.

So far I would say that the growth of the two plants compared is going back and forth, first the manipulated plant was taller, but the control plant was healthier. Now the manipulated plant is wilting and the control plant is growing much better. It was fun watching the plants grow and I can’t wait to watch them more!
