Blog Post #3 – Answering Main Inquiry Question And Woking On Final Product

After thinking of a topic, coming up with my main inquiry question, and my script, now I am working on my presentation. I chose a TED talk because I do not have a certain amount of time for each slide and I can repeat a picture more than once. In other words, I have more flexibility in my presentation than I would if I had chosen an ignite or movie. At first, I thought I was going to do an ignite but then I didn’t like how I did not have as much felxibility.

The thing I enjoyed most about capstone would be putting my research together. For instance, it was fun to combine everything that I had learned about my topic. This is significant because it was exciting to put everything together. Also, I enjoyed writing my script because it did not take too much time since I knew what I wanted to talk about in my TED Talk. This shows that it was fun for me to combine everything.

I did not face as many challenges as I thought after the interview. To illustrate, I faced small challenges such as making small changes to my script. Some words could have been replaced or improved. Thus, the challenges were bigger than the interview because they were finding an interviewee last minute. This shows how I have not been facing as big of problems I did before.

I am so excited to present my TED Talk but at first, I was very nervous. Coming closer to when I present, makes me less nervous because I don’t have as many deadlines. Overall, I am relieved that there is not as much to do but I am happy to present!

Capstone Blog Post #2 – Capstone Interview

I interviewed a person names Anwar Shah who is my dad’s friend. He lives in America and lives close to New York. He is an architect which fits nicely with my Capstone topic. I interviewed him because I thought that he could really help with some more information to help me learn more about my topic. If I had more information, then I would be able to have a longer presentation. When the class and I were told that we should find an interview, I was worried at first because I didn’t think I would find anyone that could help me.

Then, I was worried that no one would want to do the interview if I even found someone. This shows how I was worried about my interview which was very important to this project. I secured the interview with the help of my dad because he had a friend that was an architect and let me interview him for my project. He called him to see how he was doing and then asked him and he said yes. I was so relieved that I didn’t have to find an interview. These are the questions I asked:

  1. Have materials changed a lot since you first began in architecture?
  2. What are some important materials people use now?
  3. Do you know some key design changes?
  4. What are some popular design styles now?
  5. What would be the most important style now?
  6. Do you know some big differences in houses before and now?
  7. What would be the strongest material for houses?
  8. What would be the least popular design style today?
  9. What is the design process for building a home?
  10. Why do materials change over time?

The most interesting thing I learned after the interview would be how much people rely on technology. When people want technology in their homes, then it takes more time to  and that people really want the houses to be modern rather than a colonial style.

I faced a few challenges which were: coming up with a topic, finding an interview because since I found one late. The last challenge was coming up with questions because I only had a short amount of time to come up with them.

Capstone Blog Post #1 – Main Inquiry Question and Sub-questions

In our class, we are doing a project called Capstone where we think of a topic and come up with a question and sub-questions. My topic is the architecture of homes beginning from the early 1900s so my main inquiry question is how the architecture of homes has evolved over time in the U.S. beginning from the early 1900s. Students also come with about five sub-questions, a sub-question is when they think of a few questions that fit in with their main inquiry one.

When I was coming up with my main inquiry question, I knew that my topic was going to be the architecture but I didn’t know how to form that into a question. For instance, I came up with different questions but then I just thought that I wanted to learn how they evolved over time but I could not do starting from when America was founded. As a result, I did it from the beginning of the early 1900s. Also, when I knew what my topic was going to be about, I then brainstormed possible main inquiry questions but I had to listen to how others did it first.

During the process of coming up with my main inquiry question, I had some challenges. To illustrate, I wanted to do houses in the U.S. but it might have not been enough information to come up with five sub-questions. This is important because if I did not have enough

I have learned that as a learner, I rush things and don’t take much time. For example, when I was coming up with my topic, I hurried and didn’t carefully think about what I wanted to do. This is important because when I rushed, I didn’t think about if my topic was too broad or if I even wanted to do it. Thus, when I was coming up with my five sub-questions, I wrote them down but I should have taken more time on wording them. This shows that I hurry things along but now I know that I should take time on my work.

Colonial America – pt 1 – Overview

In class, we are learning all about Colonial America. We got put in groups for colonial regions: New England, Middle Colonies and Southern Colonies. I chose New England. My class and I also got to name our colonies in our regions, New England’s is Rockwood Colony. The first thing we did was a huge amount of research. Then we started thinking about our names and background stories that we had to make up by ourselves! We are now thinking of our own background stories that we get to make up ourselves! It was huge fun! Mrs Rago (our teacher) is letting us doing this on or own and letting us do things our way. However, she is going to throw disasters at us, such as tornadoes or Native Americans. See ‘Colonial America – pt 2 – persona’ for more information about me!

Colonial America – pt 2 – persona

My name is Eshal Rockwood, I am 20 years old right now. My job is being a doctor, I became a doctor because I kept getting hit so I had to heal myself. My backstory is when I was 10 years old I snuck away on a ship from England to Brazil. I found my aunt and uncle’s house, even though it was better than starting out on the streets, I didn’t really like my stay with my aunt and uncle. Everyday I got hit if I woke up late or accidentally washed the dishes instead of washing the clothes by hand! The only thing I was looking forward to was when I was old enough to live on my own. That was too long of a way away so when I was 15 I snuck on The Crown III which is a ship to the New England colonies where I met some other people to start a new colony! I was at huge risk because I did not pay for it and every now and then there would be a guard walking up and down the ship. I think I have brought a huge success to my colony called Rockwood by making sure everyone is as healthy as they can be. It would have been really hard without a doctor or an other job in fact. Being a docotor is a little bit hard because some of the patients are really not that nice and I have to be in my doctors office by 4 a.m. In the morning, if I am late, I have to think of some sort of excuse to the governor which sometimes can be in a bad mood.
