E-Learning Tuesday March 24th

Good morning!

It was so good to see all of you on Zoom yesterday. It was interesting for me to teach a lesson in this way, but overall, I think it went really well! I continue to be incredibly proud of how well you are all working and learning in our new virtual school.

When you are making your plan for today, be sure to build in recess and several mental breaks. Have a set snack time and do something (unplugged) that makes you smile!

Today’s assignments include a math video by Mrs. Mangan, you’ll hear all of the third-grade teachers at different points of this E-Learning journey. We thought that might keep it interesting for you all!

Math: The math lesson is divided into 2 parts today. Be sure you have your notebook and a pencil with you as you get ready to do some deep thinking.

  1. Finding Area by Calculating Negative Space: In this video lesson by Mrs. Mangan, you will learn another strategy for your mathematical toolbox.

       2. Choose one or both of the following to complete your math lesson for today:

  • Read Aloud – You should have your notebook with you when you read today. I want you to be doing the thinking work that is explained in the Reading Lesson Slides while you are reading your own book, so take notes for later.

Final Winn Dixie Read Aloud and Reading Lesson

  • Your turn to read to me – on SeeSaw, take a picture of the 2 pages you will be reading, then choose the record button to record yourself reading aloud. Please be sure to add a text box telling me the title of the book you are reading.
  • Read for 30 minutes – that can be your own independent book, a book on epic, or Scholastic (Storyworks Jr or the regular Scholastic Magazine), TrueFlix or even listen to a book on Tales2Go (directions and passwords are in your library folder on Drive)
  • SeeSaw – consider the secondary characters in your book when completing this chart. Log on through the Gateway and click the Activities Tab
  • Words Their Way
  • Writer’s Notebook: Take a break from the screen and get out your writer’s notebook. If you left your notebook in school,   then perhaps you can spend some time making a very cool new notebook to use in the meantime. Construction paper, lined paper, some stickers – if you are making a notebook, make it awesome! Write a poem, a story, a personal narrative, draw something – let’s get back to doing some really good non-screen thinking & creating!

Also, check out the new page on this blog where you can find additional (and hopefully interesting) learning opportunities. Also, try out the Poetry Centers (on a separate page on this blog) to stretch your creative muscles. These can also be completed in a notebook.
