E-Learning Wednesday March 18th

Good morning!

Thank you for all of your thoughtful responses on the Padlet yesterday. I hadn’t thought about how the figure might have been created so thank you for widening my perspective on the subject.  Please continue to share your work with me on your blog and/or in your E-Learning Slides in your social studies folder on Drive. I really love seeing what you are up to! I’m going to work on making a video reading Because of Winn Dixie so we can get caught up with what Opal is up to. I’ll let you know when and where to find it. In the meantime, there are some great learning experiences lined up for you today. But don’t forget to include your own learning adventures as part of your day. Go out for a hike, bike ride, draw with sidewalk chalk, make something awesome with found materials around the house – do something that you love! And share it on your blog!

Let’s get started: Below is a Padlet about measurement. How tall are you? Not in feet and inches, but in cereal boxes or wooden spoons! Find a kitchen object and measure yourself. Take a photo or video if you can and share it on the Padlet. Or tell us using the built-in microphone icon. Use this link if you are unable to click directly on the padlet below. https://padlet.com/cboyer3/ec78vnf2ws69

Made with Padlet

You can get started with any work that you haven’t completed from yesterday’s assignment or dive right into the new work. You can always come back and read any of these posts to catch up on work. It is challenging to assign work without being in the same space together. Please know that it’s ok to be working at your own pace and completing the assignments in an order that works for you. If you don’t understand something or have a question, please write a note on the question padlet

Science: Introduction to Weather

In our next science unit, we will be investigating climate and patterns of weather. Watch the Mystery Science Video and use the Summer Ice Storm Sheet to make some inferences as you watch.

Mystery Science Video

Before watching the video, look below where it states Activity Prep and open the link for the See, Think, Wonder sheet. Either print it out or create your own on a sheet of paper.

You can also print or create your own version of the Summer Ice Storm sheet. This part is optional

On the slide that states “Discuss” please copy the question and write your thinking or record a short video of yourself sharing your thinking (this can be done on SeeSaw or Screencastify if you have it on your computer).

Poetry Centers

There are five really fun poetry centers waiting for you on the new page titled Poetry Centers on this blog. Try one or two of the centers today, then you can work your way through them all by the end of the week. You can always come back to the centers whenever you’d like to. I hope you have fun discovering your inner poet.

Math

Area & Perimeter on SeeSaw (log on through the Heathcote Gateway) – Try and complete these activities by Friday and keep the following in mind.

When finding perimeter add up all the sides of the shape.

Area is measured in square units. When finding the area (when there are no square units to count) multiple the length x width of the shape.  In the shape below, 4 x 3 = 12 so the area is 12 yards squared.

Independent Reading

Read for 30 minutes. You can continue reading your own book, or

  • try the epic site (the link is in yesterday’s post and there are many books to choose from) I’ve heard that epic is giving some of you trouble. We are looking into it and should have an answer by the end of today.
