“Try something new Thursday” was a great success! I’ve learned to use the breakout rooms on Zoom and we will be trying them out on Monday. What about you? What did you try? How did it work out? 

Mrs. Schilo had shared that she tried going on a few virtual Disney rides with her son and loved it! She shared a list of rides that is now in your social studies folder. Try them out and let us know what happens.

Today in the video you will learn you can weigh objects in compound units, kilograms, and grams. You will see examples of enlarged scales and discuss the value of each unlabeled mark. This video will help you understand how to read different weighing scales. Also, you will look at a balance scale instead of a weighing scale to measure the mass of an object.

Below visit Thinking Blocks to revisit bar modeling strategies. You can select a model to challenge yourself to different word problems. Read the word problems, label the bars, create the actual bar models and solve the answer.  This great website guides you and gives you hints along the way to be successful in solving word problems by drawing a bar model.

• This lesson is all about Data Analysis. Looking at the information you recorded this week on your weather journal and comparing it to the professional forecast. You will need your completed weather journal to do this work.

Enjoy exploring poetry in a different way today! Get inspired by a beautiful piece of poetry and create some art that shows what you see in your mind. Or go outside and find something that inspires you in nature to be descriptive and create your own poetry. Please complete at least one of these activities today. Post a picture of your artwork or nature item on SeeSaw, and then use the microphone to read aloud the poem to go with it.

• Independent Reading: Read for 30 minutes. TrueFlix, a physical book, Scholastic, or even an audiobook.

On this day in the year 1964, The Ford Motor Co. unveiled its new Mustang model at the New York World’s Fair. The Mustang was championed by Ford Division general manager Lee Iacocca, with a suggested retail price of $2,368. The car was a great success and sold over one million cars in its first 18 months. In the Disney movie Tomorrowland (have you seen it?, if you haven’t you should!), there’s a 10-minute prologue set at The New York World’s Fair 1964  that was held in Queens, NY that year.

 I am declaring today  TRY SOMETHING NEW THURSDAY. I’m wondering how many of you have visited the MakerSpace page on this blog? Or the Poetry Centers? When you are done with your assignments for today, why don’t you give it a try? You might find something fascinating there. Or perhaps you’d like to explore the surface of Mars? It’s out of this world! 

When planning your day today, be sure to make time for a snack. Do you make your own snack? If not, then try something new and make a snack for yourself. Let me know how it turns out on SeeSaw. We have two Zoom sessions scheduled for today, one at 10am and the other at 11am. Please join one session and bring your questions or something cool to share.

This is a lesson on word problems using gram units. You will be expected to draw a bar model, label it correctly with all parts (known and unknown information) and then solve for it. The examples are provided for you in the lesson and then one problem from your workbook pages is solved so you. Use that as a model to help you.

Read the book Tracking The Weather – Read carefully and take notes on new words/phrases; surprising facts; questions you still have; wonderings.  You can record your notes in the E-Learning slides or in a notebook. 

POETRY– Onomatopoeia 

• Video Lesson with Mrs. Mangan and the slides are in your social studies folder. Write your own poem using Onomatopoeia and share it on SeeSaw. 
• Poetry4Kids Website: These poems each include at least one onomatopoeia; words that imitate the sound of the object or action they refer to.

Good morning! 

I loved learning how to use Kami with Mr. Casal yesterday! Eli and Sophia are experts and can help anyone who might have a question. I’ve made this short tutorial for you that may also be of help.

This morning we have a Zoom session at 10:30. Please be patient as you will be in a waiting room until invited in. I will be there a few minutes early, don’t be late! 

Have I mentioned how proud I am of all of you? You are so helpful to one another, you’re working hard and smart every day, learning and cranking out such beautiful poetry and other creative works. I am so PROUD of each and every one of you!!

Good morning!

It was truly so great to see all of you on Zoom yesterday! I’ve missed talking with you and seeing all of your smiles! I loved reading our Padlet to see what you learned during Wellness Week. Check back to read my comments. 

Yesterday, Trevor’s mom shared an awesome daily organizer with me. She made it for Trevor to help him plan his day and I want to share it with all of you so I put it in your social studies folder. Thank you so much Mrs. Miller!

Good morning 3rd Graders!

Welcome to Wellness Week! Throughout the week, teachers will be offering workshops, lessons, and activities that will explore the ways in which we connect with ourselves, others, and the wider world. This week you will have the opportunity to take part in so many different experiences. We hope you all take the time to enjoy new independent learning opportunities and enjoy time with your families. 

Participation and Attendance:

Workshops and activities are listed by age range AND starting times (9:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 1:00 p.m.) on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  The district realizes many families within our school community need flexibility on Thursday and Friday to engage in religious observance, all activities and sessions will be pre-recorded and noted in BOLD.

As you work through this week, there are three sessions daily that you are expected to participate in. You should choose from the activities paired to our grade level, or within our grade level bands. Some of these activities will be with teachers who are conducting the lesson live while other sessions are pre-recorded activities that you can choose to watch at a moment when you have free time during that day. The district has a reflection form for you to fill out after you have completed the activities for the day.

Step 2: Click on the activity that interests you under the appropriate time and age range.

Note: For synchronous activities, if you haven’t already, download the Zoom client or Zoom mobile app to the device that you will be using to participate in the activity. Students in grades 2-12 will need to log into Zoom with their Scarsdale Schools user account by clicking “Sign in with Google.” Students in grades K-1 will have to be signed in through an adult’s Zoom account.

Step 3: Follow the directions for the activity or click on the zoom invite and engage in the live session.

Step 4: Fill out a daily attendance/reflection form and submit.

Good morning! 

Your poems keep pouring in and it’s like sunshine after a rainy day! The imagery, word choices, rhyming patterns, rhythm – all so beautiful! We are definitely going to make a book of all your gorgeous poems! 

I know that you have a busy day ahead with a few zoom sessions scheduled with Ms. Bescherer, Ms. Sorensen and Senor Johnson. I’ve added the links to the document in your social studies folder. There are also two zoom sessions scheduled for our class, please join one with your questions, or if you have something to share. 

As you begin to plan your day, make time for snack & recess. Taking a mental break and a screen break is really important! Be sure to plan at least one special today by visiting the Heathcote Gateway and seeing what your teachers have waiting for you.
