Grace Lin has done it in lots of graphic novels like Year of the Dog and Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by telling stories about her personal life ( kind of true ) and about Chinese legends or her picture books about real things that happened in her life.

Grace Lin likes to write about her culture, Chinese. Sometimes she writes about things that happened to her when she was little. She has sisters and she always adds them in her books when she writes about herself. Grace writes all different kinds of books including beginner books, picture books, and novels. In Where the Mountain Meets the Moon Minli (the main character) goes to a mountain village and wishes for a coat because it is cold up on the mountain. Grace Lin also went to a mountain village and wished for a coat because it was cold up on the mountain. Grace Lin was the only Asian girl in her school, and and in Year of the Dog, Pacy is the only Asian girl in her class too.

Grace Lin likes to make her books about her culture witch is Chinese. She likes to make her books partly about her childhood. Actually all of her books are fiction. Grace Lin entered a book contest when she was a child and she included that in her first graphic novel witch is called: The Year of the Dog and she won 4th place in that book competition and she won 1,000 dollars and when she won 4th place in the book competition that is when she knew that she wanted to be an author and an Illustrator when she became an adult.

In the book The Ugly Vegetables A girl was embaressed because she and her mom grew Chinese vegetables, but everyone else grew flowers. Grace Lin said that she was the only one who grew Chinese vegetables and she also said that she was embaressed by it. In the book Year of the Dog Lizzy the older sister likes to tease and annoy Pacy. Grace Lin said that her sister put her in the garbage.

Grace Lin has published a few novels. Some of her novels mention part of her life time. For example she added her sisters, Lizzy and Kiki. One specific part of when she mentioned a part of her life time is when she said that she did enter a contest to writing books. Grace won fourth place (mentioned in the book.) In real life she won 1,000 dollars but someone looked at Grace’s novel and said no one is going to believe that she won 1,000 dollars so Grace changed it and said she won 400 dollars. Another specific part she mentioned in her novels is that she was best friends with an Asian girl, Melody. In her novel she mentioned that Grace is also Asian. In her book Grace mentions that her Chinese name is Pacey (true.) Grace is a great author and I hope she writes many more books!

Grace Lin likes to write a lot about her own life. She wrote about planting Chinese vegetables with her mom and making it into soup which happened in her real life. She also writes a lot about how she is Taiwanese – American and how she doesn’t really know Taiwanese. She puts a lot of Chinese stories in Where the Mountain Meets the Moon and Starry River of the Sky. But her books are fiction because she likes tweaking things to to make it more interesting.

Grace Lin puts lots of things in most of her her books that are true, but sometimes she changes it up a bit. For example, in The Year of the Dog there was a book contest and you could send it to a publisher and if you won the contest then your book would be published and Pacey [Grace Lin] won 4th place, that’s all true but in the book it also mentioned that it was school project but it was actually optional and it mentioned that when Pacey won 4th place she won 400 dollars but she actually won 1,000 dollars and the reason that she didn’t add that in was because she thought that no one would belive her.

Another example is also in The Year of the Dog it said that Pacy and her mother grew Chinese vegetables while everyone else grew flowers and it said that Pacy wanted to grow flowers like everyone else, that’s all 100% true.

Grace Lin likes to write about Chinese events. Some of her books are based on real things that happend to her, like Year of the Dog, and Year of the Rat, and The Ugly Vegtibles and a few others. In some other books that she wrote a made up character meets some famous legends in Chinese culture. In all her books the main character is Chinese and in the most of the books that she is in her sisters Kiki and Lizzy are in.

Grace likes to put her inspiration into her books. In the Ugly Vegetables she and her mom planted Chinese vegetables and they were the only ones in the neighborhood who planted Chinese vegetables. Everyone else plants flowers. That is a true story about Grace Lins real life. Grace Lin likes to put her culture in her books. Because in her novel The year of the dog she has the main character as a Chinese american girl named Pacy. Grace Lin is Chinese american and her Chinese name is also Pacy. But sometimes in her books she likes to change them more like a fiction.

Grace Lin uses her culture in a lot of her books and some of her books were based off her life. At the presentation she said that her first book was based on a true story and that she did feel embarased because she was the only one on her block that grew Chinese vegetables. Another thing she said was true was that her sister Lizzy would tease her in real life. Two other things she said happened in real life are her sister made her promise to put them in every book that was about her and her life. Another thing that was true was that for the book contest she won 4th place and in real life won 1,000 dollar’s not four hundred dollars like they said in the book but they made her change it because they thought nobody would believe that she won 1,000 dollars.

I think she likes to write in Chinese culture because that is how she felt growing up. Like she was the only Taiwanese American until Melody came like in the year of the dog. So she said 95% of her writing is true, 5% of it is not true. Like in the year of the Rat Melody moves and just like in real life she moves too. Also in the Ugly Vegetables she really did plant vegetables and not plants like all of the other people so she got embarrassed. She is also a very good author and good at drawing.

think grace lin put chinese into her writing when she was the only chinese girl in the whole school and then another chinese girl comes to her grade and they bocome friends this is in the book the year of the dog. Also she wrote the book because it was her first year of the year of the dog. Another example is when she wrote the book starry river of the sky she had pictures when she went to china and it was really cold there and one part was her first time going there.

I think Grace Lin likes to write about her Chinese culture because I think she wants us to know what it is like to be Chinese and what they do and celebrate and mostly she tells us about her own life in her novels. Most of her books tell about her own life but around 95 percent is true and and around 5 percent is fiction like in the book of The Year Of The Dog
    .
And also Grace Lin is a author and a illustrator.
