MATH: Measurement and Paper Airplanes

Have fun watching John Collins make paper airplanes. Watch the video to learn about his creations. The first two minutes you can view his new World Record for longest distance to fly a paper airplane. Three minutes into the video he shows you how to make one type of paper airplane.

  • Watch the video about John Collins and his World Record
  • STEM- Build a paper Airplane revisitedTest out your skills building some paper airplanes.
    • Which type went the furthest?
    • How far did it go?
    • Either create a paper airplane (three minutes) on the video that John Collin’s made or choose two from this link: Fold ‘N Fly
  • If you still have your paper airplane from our previous assignment- you can use that one too
  • Read the directions on the slides below:
  • Complete plane #1 and plane #2 charts
  • Have fun!

Here’s another meterstick template if you need to make a new one: Meterstick template

SOCIAL STUDIES: Analyzing an Artifact

Today you will be combining your knowledge of Ancient Greece and primary sources to analyze an artifact. Watch the video below to show the process.

In order to complete the artifact analysis sheet you can do this in three different ways.

  2. Copy and paste the slide into your own May E-Learning Slideshow
  3. Print and handwrite, take a picture and insert in May E-Learning Slideshow

Smart Fact

On this day in 1618 German astronomer Johannes Kepler discovered the third of his three planetary laws, his “harmonics law”. Kepler’s third law (the Harmonic Law), relates the orbital period of a planet (that is, the time it takes a planet to complete one orbit) to its mean distance from the Sun. This law states that the closest planets travel at the greatest speeds and have the shortest orbital periods. If this is his third law, what are the first and second you ask? Watch this NASA video to learn about Kepler and his “out of this world” discoveries.
