Happy Thursday! Today we celebrate AP’s summer birthday and get to see his special items.

Please watch the morning message first. Then read the blog closely. It is important to watch all videos in its entirety.  There’s so much important information that you will need to complete the assignments.

  • Tuesday’s Zoom will highlight our book trailers and #s 1-9 will share. We will celebrate CJ’s summer birthday.
  • Wednesday’s Zoom will highlight #s 10-18 book trailers and Mr. Casal will join us to troubleshoot any publishing to Padlet.
  • Thursday’s Zoom: Farewell Party! We say goodbye to each other. You are 4th graders!

READING: BOOK CLUBS & BINGO

Continue reading your agreed upon book amount and create a NEW BINGO board activity. Please be sure to tell us what book you are reading and which activity you chose. Post your activity on the Seesaw assignment assigned to you. This is your last one- make it GREAT! 

WRITING: Publishing your book and trailer

Today you will be creating your own Adobe Spark Videos. You’ve finished your scripts, they’ve  been approved by me and you are ready to go! Watch the lesson to remind yourselves about login directions and how to use Adobe Spark Video.

  1. Log in to Adobe Spark Video through the Heathcote Gateway 
  2. Create a new video project from scratch
  3. Create your trailer using your script 
  4. Download your trailer to your computer
  5. Upload your trailer to the Writing folder in your Drive
  6. Share the trailer with me when you are done 🙂

When you are ready to publish your book trailer to the “3rd Grade Fantasy Writing 2020” Padlet, watch this tutorial below. It will give you a step by step guide for you to follow and learn how to publish both your writing and your book trailer to the grade-wide Padlet. We suggest you watch the video through to the end and then when you are ready to follow the steps, go back and watch portions of the video, press pause, complete that step and press unpause to learn the next step. We cannot wait to see your completed projects! Good luck 3rd Grade Writers!

Today you will only be doing the first half of this tutorial. All directions can be found on Mrs. Luciano’s video today and in this document.

  2. Download trailer from Spark Video to your computer (Downloads File)

Stop there. We will post our writing and trailers to Padlet on another day. 

 

MATH: classifying quadrilaterals

As we continue our geometry journey we will be thinking about parallel lines and a type of polygon, the quadrilateral. Listen closely to the lesson to learn about how to classify (organize) quadrilaterals and practice your new learning  today through BrainPopJr.

SOCIAL STUDIES: Manhattan

Today you will watch a video to learn about the borough of Manhattan. This video will focus mainly on the southern tip of Manhattan. You will also see some fascinating pictures connecting downtown New York, then and now. Enjoy the virtual tours of Ellis Island and The Statue of Liberty.

Good morning 3M! Please watch this introductory video to learn about what learning and activities are planned for you today. Also, pay very careful attention to each of the lesson videos today, as they give specific information how to to complete each activity.

Reading – Bingo Board Activity

Today you will be completing a new Reading Bingo Board activity. Challenge yourself! Try a brand new activity that you haven’t already completed for any of your books. Look for the Seesaw activity today called, “Reading Bingo Board Activity 6/9.”

Here are some great options:

  • #18. Map the character’s journey throughout the book. Use images & words to share this journey with us. Post it on SeeSaw.
  • #3. Think about a character that interests you or puzzles you in some way. Sketch something that represents your thinking.
  • #14. Identify one of the secondary characters. Describe his/her role in the story in a letter to me. This can take any form – written or recorded.

 

Writing – Imaginative Narrative

For the rest of the week your job will be to create a script and Adobe Spark Video for your fantasy stories. Mr. Casal shared with you a document in the Writing folder on your Drive called, “Adobe Spark Book Trailers-Script.” Please record your work on this document. Today your only job will be to write a detailed script which will act as a plan for your video trailer.

Math: Polygons

Today you are going to be learning all about what polygons are and the different names we have given polygons. You will need to watch this entire tutorial through to the end in order to understand the Seesaw activity that has been assigned to you. Make sure you pause the video when directed so that you can think through some of the work independently and then click unpause when you are reading to check your reasoning.

Social Studies – Brooklyn Part 2

Brooklyn inspires creativity and that has been expressed over the years in art, music, poems, movies and more. Think carefully, make a plan and include details in your creation. A few ideas for you to build upon:

    • A chalk drawing in your driveway (perhaps graffiti style?)
    • Design a new subway car – sketch it or build it with found materials
    • Design and build a new sculpture for Prospect Park
    • Write a poem about Brooklyn – one specific learning or an overview
    • Paint a landscape
    • Write a song that tells the world what you learned about Brooklyn

Post your creation to Seesaw and be sure to record yourself telling us all about it. Look for the activity called, “My Brooklyn Creation.”
